Some days we just need a reality check of how we are really being in our lives. The amount of “self help” books that exist can be daunting. “There’s nothing as unstoppable as a freight train full of fuck-yeah.” -Jen Sincero (one of my favorite authors from this list) and I want to get you on that train! Mindset is so key in success and everyone deserves that.
Now this first book is by far my favorite I have read so far, I picked up the New York Times best selling book “You Are A Badass” from the Target shelves thinking, “this has to be something worth reading especially with a title like that” and wasn’t sure what to expect. Jen Sincero does an amazing job winding through how we beat ourselves up with lots of humor, real talk and some tough love. With statements like “So often, we pretend we’ve made a decision, when what we’ve really done is signed up to try until it gets too uncomfortable.” (not gonna lie that statement really hit home!) being uncomfortable isn’t necessarily a bad thing as I learned from her. Jen makes you take a real look at how you are in life for those around you and the most important for yourself above all. The look at yourself can be a bit hard and harsh at times but if you really hang on and take it to heart you will find amazing transformation. This audio book is in my rotation on my way to work because I always feel so pumped up for my day (heck I almost always find AMAZING parking at work, hows that for mindset changing reality?). I shove this book down the throats of all of my friends insisting it will change their lives and mindset (and they always tell me I’m right 😉 ). By the time I had recently finished this book I decided something had to change and so I did.
I first heard of Jack Canfield the same way most people have, he’s the brilliant man behind the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series and the first to kick your butt about self doubt and sabotage. He is the leading man of helping you get out of your own way on the path to success. The Success Principles includes inspiring stories of CEO’s, world-class athletes, celebrities, and people like you and me, it spells out the principles used and by successful men and women throughout history. Read a chapter every day, do the work, but REALLY do the work (be honest with yourself) and find the path to actual happiness and success (the first step is admitting you’ve caused and brought all the good and bad into your life) Whatever it is you want to achieve his tough love and wisdom will help you get on the path to success. He really makes you confront the things, as uncomfortable as they are that are stopping you from succeeding.
The final book for me is the hardest to write about. It really forced me to confront my food (and weight demons). No scale for 30 days?!?! Have you lost your mind? After being told how the scale showed my value for so many years this was the hardest thing to give up! But this simple plan of eating whole, simple, balanced meals three times a day changed my views on food. The Whole 30 let me give up the obsession over what I was “supposed to eat” and let me see food for what it is… FUEL! It is a plan that seems so incredibly overwhelming till you just do it. At the end of the 30 days I had a full blown 6 pack, shed tons of weight, and had more energy than I knew what to do with! (Did I mention I slept the best I’ve ever slept in my life?) It Starts With Food and the Whole 30 are one of the most highly debated fitness trends but my experience I can’t ignore. Want boundless energy? Less body fat? Better, glowing skin? This is the hot ticket to stop the evil relationship with food and find power and love with your body the way it is!
These 3 books made a major difference in my life and I can’t wait to see you on your giant train of “fuck yea!”
